Some beginnings are not planned.
We did not meet by coincidence. We met through architecture, through its education, its promises, and its contradictions. In studios and corridors, during long nights of study, we shared hopes of a practice that could engage with everyday life and transform spaces and societies.
Entering the professional field showed us the challenges ahead.
Confronted with a practice that often felt extractive, competitive, and detached from reality, entering the professional field revealed persistent inequalities shaping who designs, who decides, and who is heard.
Despite our different paths, one common ground remained: the need to respond.
SHIFT+SPACE was formed as a shared space to rethink practice, experiment with collaboration, and reclaim how we shape the city together.
We believe space is shaped through everyday use, interaction, and care.
We believe knowledge gains meaning when it is shared, accessible, and put into practice.
We believe urban nature is not an add-on, but an integral part of the city, deserving understanding, respect, and support.
We believe cities evolve through collaboration, ecological awareness, and shared responsibility.
Education is at the heart of our practice.
Through it, we address our pillars and their solutions. Education makes architecture and urban design more accessible, equips communities with the tools to act, and empowers people to shape the spaces they inhabit.
URBAN NATURE
the city as a living ecosystem.
SOCIAL DESIGN
as a social process.
SHARED PRACTICE
collaboration and shared authorship as a principle.
We act with intention and limits.
We refuse to let compromises and trade-offs undermine our core values or outweigh what we stand for. We refuse to overrun these foundations in the name of efficiency, visibility, or convenience.
We refuse projects that dilute ecological responsibility, reduce participation to token participation, or strip social design of justice and care.
Our work is shaped through practice.
We offer workshops, classes, handbooks, conversations, and tools for better cities.
Our work is adaptable, context-based, and shaped through exchange with those involved.
